Focus on Indigenous

  • Kulturlagret 29 Djurgårdsgatan Göteborg, Västra Götalands län, 414 62 Sweden (map)

Finland, Sweden and Norway share the Arctic Sámiland which has unique culture and indigenous music. Indigenous music has been in focus in the world music scene generally as e.g. North-American, Australian and other indigenous artists have been able to attract more and more attention worldwide.

What is the situation in the Nordic countries: are Sámi artists an appreciated and supported asset, are they part of the global indigenous music trend?

This panel is supported by the Swedish Embassy in Washington.

In the panel:

  • Artist, Producer (NO)

Klemet Anders Buljo has his background from The Agder Music Conservatory in Norway. However, the native music traditions of Sápmi and “world” music influences are closest to his heart. During his career, he has been involved in numerous projects at different venues and studios around Norway and abroad.

Klemet is pro-session guitarplayer with an ethnic and innovative approach to modern improvisational music. He is known for his eclectic guitar style combined with livesampling, which creates a unique ambient sonic landscape which is characterized as the arctic sound. Cultural background as a son of a reindeerherder from the heart of Sápmi makes him as one of the true Sami cultural intermediaries as a musician, vocal performer, producer, and a speaker as well.

Klemet is a board member of Sami composers association and a creative director of music festival Sami Music Week, Sami Music Awards and a song-camp Arctic Song Lab.
